XAn uber-classy way to react to a tragedy

The Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in Newtown, CT, was a horrific event many businesses didn’t want to ignore.

But tragedies like that are touchy subjects that need to be handled with extreme care. So we have to applaud Vitamix, a blending machine maker, for the smart way it handled the disaster – with three days of silence.

At noon on Dec. 14 it tweeted: Out of respect for Newtown, CT. we’ll be going silent. If have (sic) a customer service need please email us at AskVitamix@Vitamix.com. Thank you.

Its next post was Dec. 17. That gave people room to breathe after the event and showed compassion – all without ignoring the customer.
