Finally, we’ve solved the age-old question: What’s the best time to hold a meeting? The answer: 3 p.m. Tuesday.
That’s the word from a recent survey in Britain, which indicates that Tuesday’s the best day because folks are just getting revved up for the workweek (after catching up on Monday, we presume). And 3 p.m.’s late enough for people to clear their schedules but early enough to minimize clock-watching by employees itching to go home.
This guidance comes via a recent article in the BBC News Magazine. Keith Harris, a spokesman for a company called When Is Good, which is described as an “online scheduling service,” said the firm’s research indicates “3 p.m. is coffee break time. People can see themselves talking over a coffee.”
Alas, there are quibblers. One consultant says he’d “hesitate to call a meeting a 3 p.m. It’s quite late in the day for some people.”
Two o’clock would work better, he says: A meeting helps focus minds again after lunch, and the adrenaline and interactivity can help ward off post-prandial sleepiness.”
Think we’ll just let them fight this out. In the meantime, we’re going to lay down for a minute. Post-prandial sleepiness, you know.
