Hit by cybertheft? Here’s help

Recent reports that small and mid-size businesses are the top targets for banking cyberthieves may be making you nervous, and local authorities are rarely equipped to help. Business accounts don’t have the same protections and restitution rules as personal accounts, and you may wonder where to turn if the cybercrime hits your organization. Try contacting the Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3), a collaboration between the FBI and the White Collar Crime Center.

IC3 was set up to receive and refer criminal complaints about online theft. It gives victims a convenient and simple reporting mechanism that alerts authorities about suspected criminal or civil violations.

The center also acts as a central referral service for complaints about Internet-related crimes.

IC3 also offers alerts on current scams, data on targets and methods and resources to help both consumers and businesses protect against cybercrime.
