The last thing a frazzled and exhausted business traveler needs is a grimy hotel. But how can you know if your home away from home is a candidate for the “Clean Sweep” reality show? Check out the new list of
the 2010 Dirtiest Hotels created by the users of the “Trip Advisor” Web site.
Leading the list: Heritage Marina Hotel in San Francisco.
Recent customers have written reviews that include comments like “The room had a funk that is indescribable” and “I can not believe how this rat hole is still in business.” Dirty sheets, urine smells and prostitutes in the lobby were among the lowlights of visitors’ experiences. Toilets that didn’t flush, windows that failed to close and even bed bugs were reported.
Second place, but it would seem only by a hair (and you can take that literally) was the Days Inn Eureka/Six Flags in Eureka, MO, where one former client “wouldn’t let a stray dog sleep” and another insisted “if hell had a hotel, it would be something like this.”
The top ten dirtiest hotels on the list are located across the nation — everywhere from Palm Springs, CA, to Miami Beach, FL
There’s also a global list for you international travelers. You’ll find the list at TripAdvisor here.

Very disgusting hotels! Always good to read reviews before booking!

There’s one I’d love to add to this list – the Ramada Inn on LakeShore in Chicago at that little convention center down there. Had to stay there a couple of times. One time I really just had to change rooms, someone appeared to have… let’s say discharged… themselves over the cloth covered chair. They put me into their good room, nice size too – it was winter, and there were too choices – leave the window closed & the stink was so bad that you had to open the window, at which point it got so cold that you had to close it. Repeat the previous at infinitum. Disgusting, with the customer service to match.

I think I stayed at the one in MO. at the end of our honeymoon. His brother made the reservation and we are still married. HE will never reserve a hotel for us again though!!

I traveled to New York this summer. Would you believe it? There were bedbugs in my expensive Manhatten hotel room. I ended up carrying them home with me. Oh what a chore to clean up.

It’s really amazing how bed bugs have made a comeback. When you’re a kid, your folks would always say “don’t let the bed bugs bite” but we never knew what they were. Now we do. Ewwwww…….
