Quick check: What if your company’s CFO were no longer willing (or able) to function in that capacity? Who would take his or her place?

No name springs readily to mind? You’re in the overwhelming majority.

A frighteningly high 83% of finance chiefs have not ID’d a successor, according to a recent survey by Robert Half Management Resources. Gulp.

This is one situation you’ll want to rectify ASAP.  Schedule a sitdown with your head bean counter to see who he or she would consider tapping.

Even if your CFO seems happy as can be in with the company and the position, it’s simply smart business to identify (or start grooming) a next-in-line, especially in these volatile economic times.
